Project Description
The Challenge: Save a historic barn threatened with demolition. Relocate and renovate the 1894 structure to serve as a weekend home. HSB's Solution: Maintain and respect the character and integrity of the historic structure while updating it with the modern conveniences of a 1994 residence. The barn was dismantled and relocated from its Chagrin Falls location to Auburn Township. The central feature of the house, a new steel stair, is hung from the barn's original hoisting beam truss. A new metal balcony and railing cantilever over the original shuttered barn door entrance. The shingled roof bears the years 1894 and 1994, marking the barn's original construction and its centennial renovation and rebirth as a new home.
